We are seeking presentations for the upcoming East Tennessee Fall Forum. Presentation slots are usually 25 minutes with a 20-minute presentation and a 5-minute question-and-answer session. Class Description: Python for ArcGIS Pro: Practical Workflows

This class is designed for GIS professionals who want to become more comfortable using Python in their everyday work. We will begin by making sense of how Python works with ArcGIS Pro, including Python environments, ArcPy, and external code editors. Participants will then work through practical ArcPy examples, learn how familiar geoprocessing steps can become reusable scripts, and see how those scripts can be run again to support repeatable GIS tasks.

The class will also introduce approachable techniques for error handling, logging, and troubleshooting. A basic familiarity with Python will be helpful, but participants do not need to consider themselves experienced programmers. The goal is to make Python easier to understand and more useful in everyday GIS work.

Instructor Bio

Jeff Kirchberg is a GIS professional with KCI Technologies who has extensive experience in GIS implementation, database development, map production, and workflow automation. His experience includes ArcGIS Pro, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server, Field Maps, Survey123, Dashboards, ArcGIS Online, Portal, GPS data collection, Python, Microsoft SQL Server, and the implementation and administration of asset management systems. He has also configured and implemented Esri Utility Network, managed electrical circuit models and outage management systems, and developed mobile applications.

Participant Laptop and Software Requirements

All attendees must bring their own laptop with a licensed, functioning installation of ArcGIS Pro and access to a working ArcGIS Pro Python environment. The instructor will demonstrate all examples during the class; however, attendees who want to follow along and complete the hands-on exercises are responsible for arriving with the necessary software, licensing, permissions, and Python environment already available on their laptop.
